Istanbul - Friday May 27, 2011

Today Tyler and Kendall Johnson graduate from high school as Salutatorian and Valedictorian of their class! What terrific boys they are! Congratulations! They are also being inducted as Eagle Scouts this weekend. Well done both of you!

Today I took the bus half way to work, and then walked the rest of the way from Osmanby. You get to see so much more, and have fresh air before the dust laden work site.

Pretty weeds growing along the sidewalk . . .

Military museum along the walk. All sorts of aircraft and guns outside. They have a military show daily, that none of us have attended as of yet.

I think that they are holding the conference for us! We seem to eat all the time . . . and they never understand we just want a little and only one to share!
Near the hotel Divan Taksim
Divan is a chocolate and cake shop - and there are multiple locations across the city. This was the first delivery truck I have seen.
Hilton Istanbul - just north of the Divan hotel . . .
Divan is in the far distance in the middle of the photo below . . .
Shoe shine man . . .
Old buildings in among the new ones . . .
The local team just won the soccer championship.
The park behind the Divan. It is full of wild dogs and cats and many birds . . .

Divan from the park . . .

Divan from the park level. Filling in soil. There is a pedestrian cross way above the traffic, connecting the parks.

From the pedestrian crossway. You can just see the Bosphorus in the center of the photo below. . .
Inter Continental Hotel . . . I turned in the spot on the bridge to get a 360 view of this point and where the hotel sits.

This is the man that cleans up all of our trash. He sweep and takes away all our rubbish. Here he is setting up the scaffold for one of the sculptures in the restaurant.
Completed chandeliers in the front lobby . . .
We had lunch in the staff cafeteria down below in the hotel today. On my way back, the nice woman asked if I had been to the top of the hotel . . . and since I had not she took be on a tour of the roof. There is a helicopter pad there, and marvelous views of the city and the Bosphorus!
Looking north up the Bosphorus towards the Black Sea . . . The new hotel should not have been built . . . but the zoning administrators were paid bribes and this new hotel now spoils the view. The Divan is only about 10 floors high.

Then we got a tour of the lower floors of the hotel . . . these two mural are done by famous Turkish artists, and are down near the various conference rooms . . . They are still under plastic as they complete the renovations.

The new lap pool and hot tub . . .

The Turkish bath - one of three - for men only, women only and a large mixed bath . . .

Installing the armature for the restaurant glass sculptures.
Office . . .
Old building by a cemetary on the walk home. We walked all the way from the Divan Taksim to the Divan City - not that far - maybe a 45 minute walk . . .
We went back the the fish restaurant for dinner. Luc is drawing a picture of the fishing boat for the wall . . .
Luc played with this very friendly cat, who kept chasing the top Luc was playing with . . .
